1 Kings 6:15-17 > When the servant of the man of God got up early and went out, he discovered an army with horses and chariots surrounding the city. So he asked Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?” Elisha said, “Don’t be afraid, for those who are with us outnumber those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed, “LORD, please open his eyes and let him see.” So the LORD opened the servant’s eyes. He looked and saw that the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Matthew 24:30-31 > Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
1 Peter 5:8-11 > Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world. Now the God of all grace, who called you into His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little. The dominion belongs to Him forever. Amen.
Revelation 22:1-5 > Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. And there will be no night there – no need for lamps or sun – for the Lord God will shine upon them. And they will reign forever and ever.
Our Father wants us to see the truth about reality. He makes a way for his sons and daughters to see his kingdom, both physical and spiritual. Why else would we have stories in the Bible about God opening the eyes of people who cannot see? The wonderful news for all of us today is that he does not require anything of us to be able to see. Our God takes the responsibility upon himself to reveal to us our blindness; our blindness to our own blindness. When we realize what the Holy Spirit has revealed to us, and we confess our blindness and ask our Lord to open our eyes with a soft, receptive heart, he will open our eyes.
Our Bright and Morning Star is returning soon; he is coming on the clouds in power and glory. Let our hearts thirst and hunger for the King’s return. The enemy invites us into many pursuits and idols that will distract us from clear sight and visionary focus upon the Day of the Lord, but our distractions and idolatry do not change the reality of what our Father has revealed is true. Whatever comes our way, let us keep our eyes fixed upon him and his truth revelation.
We will suffer. The people of God will share in the sufferings of their Messiah, and our Father appoints us to suffer and be persecuted as a blessing to receive from his throne. We always ask God in prayer to make us more like Jesus, but do we really mean it? Jesus suffered much; he suffered more than any man before or after his life on earth. To be like Jesus is to advance Yahweh’s kingdom among all nations until there is No Place Left, and when Christ’s kingdom advances, the dragon’s kingdom recedes.
And as the dragon’s kingdom recedes, the acceleration towards the end ignites. For there is a generation whose destiny is to end this age. Whether it be our generation, or the next, or a distant generation in the future, there is a last generation whom the Lord will raise up to end the Great Commission: reproducing disciples among all nations until there is No Place Left. Let us abide in our Father every day and through the watches of each night, praising his holy name, and enjoying fellowship with his Holy Spirit. Let us listen to our Lord speak to us every day, showing us his sovereign plan for each of us. Let us walk by faith and not by sight as faithful and fruitful companions until we die or the skies are consumed by his glory.
Heavenly Father, thank you for our eyes. Thank you for sight. Thank you for the beauty of the gorgeous world you have created. From the highest mountains to the deepest seas; from a newborn baby to a fruit-bearing orchard, we see your creative touch everywhere. Father, we want to see. We invite you today to search out our hearts. Please, Lord, see if there is any offensive way in us, and lead us in your everlasting path. Father, we worship and praise you today. Please raise us up so we can see your heart for each of our lives.
Father, you are sending our Messiah King back soon. You promised he would return like a thief in the night, so we will not be able to predict when this age ends. Yet, Jesus’ return will be public in our earthly realm, and all peoples and nations from the four winds will see and fear him. For he came as a humble servant to die for us, but he will return as a Victorious King and Almighty General of heaven’s armies.
Thank you, Lord, for what is to come. Thank you for your deliverance from our spiritual bondage in slavery to a master who rages against us and wants to see all of us damned forever in Hell with him and his demonic servants. His kingdom is fear and condemnation and control. Your kingdom is hope and blessing and freedom. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God who was slain for the sins of the world. Blessed is he who comes in the name of our LORD!
Father, we welcome all suffering that you would find us worthy to receive, because we want to be more like Jesus. We love him, because he first loved us, and he came to conquer the enemy and flow us into a river of life; an eternal destiny with you in heaven. While we were yet rebels, Jesus Christ died for everyone. And with his last righteous breath, he cried, “It is finished!” We declare that Jesus Christ’s death upon the cross was perfect to save all mankind from every tribe, tongue, nation, and people from their sins and into your family.
Father, help us to live now in preparation for what is to come. May your kingdom come here in us as in heaven. Teach us how to live in the light of your glory. One day night will end; there will be no more darkness or curse or condemnation or death. One day we will walk with you into eternity together and serve you forever with inexpressible joy. We love you, Lord. Amen.
